'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the dramatic dying seconds of his team's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game ended with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses following the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range effort from distance, and his teammate promptly hammered in the loose ball before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with fans mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an incredible turnaround given the team had been behind 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. Amid the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a upcoming fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before shifting to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they understand how to manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and focus just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a popular figure across two seasons at his former club and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At the London club he reunited with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford City, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away games against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been quite the ride for the youngster from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "It was relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm planning to be the next one out of the minibus and driving. His teammate is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
